ANNA'S FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS COOKIES

The perfect recipe for festive cookies

The holiday season enchants us anew each year. Lights twinkle everywhere, and delicious scents fill the air. One sent is especially essential: the aroma of freshly baked Christmas cookies.

That's why we asked our founder and designer, Anna, for her favorite Christmas cookie recipe. Without hesitation, she chose classic shortbread cookies. These little delights are perfect for adding personal touches and decorating to your heart’s content – with icing, chocolate, or colorful sprinkles. They’re ideal for cozy afternoons with family, baking and decorating together, or as a sweet, homemade gift for your loved ones.

Ingredients

  • 250 g flour
  • 125 g cold butter (cut into small pieces)
  • 80 g sugar
  • 1 packet vanilla sugar
  • 1 egg
  • a pinch of salt
  • for decorating: powdered sugar, chocolate, sprinkles, jam, or icing

Instructions

1. Prepare the dough:
Place the flour in a bowl. Cut the butter into small pieces and add it to the flour. Add sugar, vanilla sugar, egg, and salt, then quickly knead everything into a smooth dough by hand. Be careful not to over-knead, so the cookies stay nice and crumbly.

2. Let the dough rest:
Shape the dough into a flat disc, wrap it in cling film, and let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

3. Cut out the cookies:
Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about 3–4 mm thick. Use any cookie cutters you like (stars, hearts, Christmas trees, etc.) to cut out the shapes and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

4. Bake:
Preheat the oven to 180°C for conventional or 160°C for fan-assisted. Bake the cookies for about 10–12 minutes until they’re lightly golden. Be careful not to let them get too dark.

5. Decorate:
Once the cookies have cooled, decorate them as desired. Dust with powdered sugar, drizzle with melted chocolate, or spread with jam to make sandwich cookies.
